About BauerCalc

BauerCalc is a practical calculation and reference platform for subsurface and upstream energy professionals.

It was built to make common geology, drilling, petrophysics, reservoir engineering, hydrogeology, geothermal, and petroleum economics calculations easier to find, easier to understand, and easier to check.

In technical work, the formula is only part of the answer. The variables matter. The units matter. The assumptions matter. And in many cases, knowing when a calculation should or should not be used is just as important as getting the result.

That is the purpose of BauerCalc.

Each calculation is designed to include the equation, variable definitions, unit guidance, practical context, and references where appropriate. Over time, BauerCalc will also include supporting plots, diagrams, worked examples, and interpretation notes to help connect the math back to real subsurface decisions.

BauerCalc is not intended to replace engineering judgment, peer review, or professional experience. It is intended to support them by making technical workflows more transparent, organized, and accessible.

The site was created by Ed Bauer, a geoscientist with experience in operations geology, geosteering, reservoir characterization, development planning, and subsurface evaluation. BauerCalc reflects a practical view of technical work: calculations should be clear, documented, and useful in the context of real decisions.

Whether you are checking a parameter, learning a workflow, screening an opportunity, or building a technical analysis, BauerCalc is designed to be a reference you can return to.

BauerCalc is a technical reference tool, not a substitute for professional engineering judgment — and it must never be used as the sole basis for real-time operational or well control decisions.Powered by Bauer Subsurface Solutions
